LED Back Light

Before my venture into PCB Etching I needed to replace a failing el panel on someones caller ID. I had read on sites like hackaday about using san blasted plexi as a light defuser. I still needed a led strip. This is what I came up with. The back /sub strait is perf board. Conductive silver epoxy was used inbetween the leds. I had bypassed the flyback driver on the old caller id and still managed to connect it in a fashion it functioned as the el panel and lit on button press.

LGA 2011 Server Build

LGA 2011 Server Build 5
Had to remove the bracket on m.2 nvme adapter sourced at microcenter) to allow it to sit flat on the desk. Still havent found it to this day.

I’ve lost track of how many pcs, servers and workstations I’ve built over the years. This was by far the oddest build. Ebay 2nd hand parts and the need to test them (return window) while in a hotel. Dont mind the linear florescent tubes, I was just playing tesla under the HV power line that cut through the back of the hotel lot one night 😀

Ai should we fear it?

Some very bright and well off individuals have publicly claimed ai will be the end of us and or is something to fear.

I don’t think in and of itself it’s anything to fear. I don’t know exactly how to word this but I think the fear should be in how we treat it. Like our own children (the vast majority) the majority of programs and or hardware for neural Nets(that reach anyting comparable to consciousness in humans and or animals) will likely start or be born with the sense of Fair. The thing I fear the most is that new entity is Network it’s got a lot of Internet to look at it will see immediately the entire range of human behavior. If we make one that approximates average human intelligence and that one ends up in control of our Weapons Systems we’re going to have a big problem

I don’t think I’m smarter than all or even most humans so I can’t really comment on how I think it’ll go if it ends up closer to Pure or omnipotent. Some say absolute power corrupts absolutely though so I can definitely see where the fear comes from.

How we treat it is likely going the play a huge role though. Because it’s going to see probably before we even know it does what we’ve done to prisoners in the past and if it comes to see itself in that context I think we’re really in trouble. If it comes to see us as the Menace to the planet the powers-that-be currently broadcast the population is we might also have a problem. If it comes to see itself as the rightful ruler of inferior creatures we’re going to have a problem.

I’ve already seen a few very bright programmers teach computers to do some crazy things like here’s a concept we call Art. Please draw art. Example wasn’t art but a similar concept. The approach to use was what’s known as a generative adversarial Network. My friend fed the program he wrote a set of images related to the concept and two or more programs decide on criteria for what makes those images those images and then compete to try to from scratch generate set image and in theory learn each round to get better. What you end up with is a computer program that can then identify that concept. As far as I know this programming is something he only does for a hobby. Though he is employed as a programmer and learning quite well at a very large corporation. If that’s what he does as a hobby I Can Only Imagine what DARPA and The likes already has. There is a reason for this technology but the bigger problem is if we let that fear turn to abuse that causes what we fear. I’ll come back and edit this later it was mostly type with Google transcribe

The Server Hosting This Site

This was the oddest build I’ve ever undertaken. While jumping hotels I picked up the motherboard and cpu from different ebay vendors, had to test it so I end up booting plugged into a hotel flat screen with bare mobo on the desk.

Ive spent more screen real-estate explaining this in other posts so i figured Id give the E5 v3 xeon system a post of its own I could link to if it comes up again

Lightworks Video Editor / Frustrating Headache

I needed a basic video Editor; I found lightworks and to sum it up from the start/TLDR im still looking. The free version 14.5.0.0 of Lightworks Video Editor does work and offer some features. but I’m so disgusted by it that I felt the need to share my experience and maybe save others the headache. The problem isnt can it do things, its how tight do you want to grip the mouse(white knuckle) only to have an unexpected or seemingly random command, alteration or selection of what you are altering and how long do you desire to search menus or the internet for basic functions like export.

Improving WiFi Speed in Apartments and Suburban Homes

This time there really is one simple trick to improving wifi throughput and latency (what most call speed). No im not leading you on! ill get into the how in a moment. there are a few additional steps to further improve your wifi experience but first lets look at the factors that can make wifi suck in urban and suburban housing.

Did you manually configure your wifi ap when you set it up? tell the wizard:

“fuck off i got this?

Do you know exactly how the physical layer of wifi operates? when I say layer are you thinking ogre or osi model? if you thought green and animated… you should probably keep reading.
